How Does Surfing Relate to Business?
To succeed in the competitive multi-billion dollar surf industry, professional surfers must adapt to rapid change, be able to differentiate themselves for sponsors and work effectively in virtual teams.
The virtual team in surfing is made up of individuals who do not work together directly but need each other to succeed, such as photographers, swell forecasters, media and PR. A professional surfer requires strong relationships with their entire virtual team, or internal clients, in order to deliver Return on Investment for their sponsors, or external clients.
About Sea of Change
Sea of Change is one of Peak Teams’ interactive Virtual Adventures. During a Virtual Adventure, business teams are challenged with real life scenarios that Peak Teams facilitators have filmed while climbing mountains, on safari in Africa or surfing around the world. These scenarios, combined with spectacular footage, personal stories and expert facilitation, provide powerful learning experiences.
Sea of Change features video highlights of a two year period in the career of Australian professional surfer, big wave chaser and Peak Teams presenter, Mark Mathews.
How the Program Works
The primary objective of Sea of Change is to manage a changing environment to deliver Return on Investment for sponsors. Teams are measured on the amount of revenue they generate for their sponsors, as well as their sponsorship satisfaction score.
There are three parts of the program: Set Up, Competition and Big Waves. After each stage, teams receive a checkpoint score on their revenue and sponsor satisfaction.
